Heart Lake Fishing Map - Depths to be added

I went to Heart Lake this year (2011). It was end of July on a rather hot day.

It was forty years ago that I last fished this lake. I lived in Brampton at the time and spent many hours in pursuit of the Largemouth Bass. In the cooler months and the evenings of July and August I had no problem, but during the hot spells they dispersed into the deeper parts of the lake and the rod fell silent.

This year I bought a fishfinder for use on another lake and found the pike easily with this piece of equipment.

I had not intended to rent a boat, but merely wanted to see how much the area had changed in forty years. I was delighted to see that, with the exception of the boathouse which had been destroyed by a fire, the area had remained unchanged. Even my favorite shoreline fishing spot was unchanged. I remember showing up at the area late in the evenings and waiting for the announcement "Park is closing in half an hour". Only then would I cast my trusted jitterbug across the glasslike surface and slowly retrieve. Almost every cast I would get a strike. These were fun times.

I always have my rod and tackle box in the car in summer so I took out a boat.

Sitting in the boat shortly after noon it occurred to me that the fishfinder would be of great help in this lake. I could now answer the questions I had so many years ago. How deep does the lake get. Are there any significant structures in the lake. Are the bigger fish in these areas.

So I prepared the map below adding the information I already had.

I now plan to survey the lake grid by grid and plot the contours and locate structures. This will take some time.

Please feel free to download the full size PDF ( link is below the map image).
This file will be updated constantly adding each depth one by one as they are determined.
